This Quilled Bird’s Nest Monogram | Letter B was a Mother’s Day gift for my grandmother, Barbara. We have bought her a lot of bird things over the years and I wanted to give her something that was memorable, beautiful, and unique. I had made her a monogram in 2014, but since I was a beginner quiller at the time and I felt like my work wasn’t very professional looking, I wanted to try out something that was really amazing. This is what I came up with.

Construction
This monogram is 8″ x 10″ and is mounted on watercolor paper. I used 1/4″ standard weight quilling strips throughout. The daisy in the lower left corner was actually made with the Quilled Creations vellum color blend paper that came out several years ago. I’m not sure if they still sell it or not.
The flowers were made with teardrops, as were the leaves. The “bark” was made by creating really large loose coils and letting them open up too much, then bending them to give a more angular look.
The tree’s “leaves” were made of two layers of beehive. The nest was made with a spiral wrapping technique. And, lastly, the eggs were made with tight coils that I pressed the end of a sharpie pen into to make “egg” shaped.
