In the Fall of 2014, I bought the single-most influential quilling book I’ve owned – even to this day. One of the projects inside was this Quilled Stylistic White Crane. I will write a more formal critique of the book in another post, but for now, let’s just say that I love the book and loved the projects and probably more importantly, loved the way it opened my mind to shapes and forms.
This crane is 8.5″ x 11″ (yup… back in the day I wasn’t thinking about framing things and using appropriately sized backgrounds). It is made with 1/8″ standard weight quilling strips.
As I said earlier, this project was one in the Paper Quilling Chinese Style Book that I love so much. There are no measurements given in the book, so it’s kind of a guess as you go process. In this case, I did not get the proportions exact because it was so difficult to size the rainbow loops and harps. But… it conveys the effect I wanted which was a sort of stylistic, painted crane. If you want to learn more about these techniques, I would highly suggest buying the book. It is well worth the cost! I have embedded the Amazon link below, but if you are anti-Amazon, feel free to look for it on other websites.
