I can’t remember if I made this Quilled White-Breasted Nuthatch before or after I made my original Chickadee Pair. I think it was after. Either way, it was one of the first few “bird” quillings that I made during the first six months or so of my quilling adventure. I cannot believe this was all the way back in 2014!

Construction
This little guy was made with 1/8″ quilling strips and is on a 5″ x 7″ cardstock background. I used some fancy scrapbooking scissors to cut out the “tree” I glued him onto .
I outlined his entire body first to define the shape and also to give the quills something to press up against when I squished them into place. These were all very small piece, probably 1/4 length strips. It was a pretty long process. His wings and tail feathers were made using a comb.
