2017 was a pretty amazing year for me. I achieved so many milestones one after another. I will always be in awe of that year and the fond memories it brings to mind. One of my favorite is creating the Scovill Zoo Quilled Cheetah.
On top of the Ulta Beauty commission and appearing in several articles and just enjoying success in general, the Scovill Zoo contacted me to request a piece for an auction they were having. I was floored and excited and honored, all at the same time!
After consulting with them about what they wanted, I decided to do a portrait of their most popular animal: the cheetah.

Techniques
This cheetah is 8″ x 10″ and mounted on a piece of black, fiber-infused art board. Because it was constructed in layers, it’s about 1/2″ to 3/4″ deep.
The majority of the face is combed. The face sits on top of the neck which I used my signature scrunching technique on. The ears, too are combed but I angled the tip of the right ear up to give the piece extra dimension.

The whiskers are set on top of the face and I have tapered them so they look more realistic and less blunt at the end.

The cheetah ended up auctioning off for a whopping $1100! I am thrilled that it brought in so much money and even happier to have been a part of the process.

Though this piece has a new owner, I would be happy to discuss creating something similar or just as amazing for you. Contact me for information on commissions.
